Ms. Pac-Man Ring: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

If you're a serious geek you understand just how serious vintage video game fans are about their game inspired apparel and jewelry. While I saw a ton of Space Invader items this fall, I think PacMan may be making a comeback.

The Tiny Armour Ms. Pac-Man Ring, $68, lets you celebrate your love for Pac-man fever and looks even more amazing paired with the ghost ring. It may be a bit more youthful than the Fancy geek rings we featured a few weeks back, but I do think it's geek chic. What do you think?

Geek Tip: Reading Emails Faster on Your BlackBerry

The amount of emails I get on my BlackBerry each day keeps increasing. I feel like I waste so much time scrolling through each message, deleting them, and then retrieving new ones. Here are a few tips from USA Today that will have you (and me) blasting through our inboxes in no time!

  • When inside an email, click the N button to go to the 'next' message. This is much faster than exiting the email and then scrolling down to open the next one. You can also use this with photos as well.

  • If you want to read a previous email, click the P button when inside of a message and you'll immediately see the "previous" one.

  • And if you've scrolled all the way down a long email and want to go back to the top, just press the T button to move your cursor back to the "top" of the screen.

Apple Announces Stellar Fiscal Q4 Results

We already knew Apple had sold a ton of iPhones, based on the fact that the iPhone had become AT&T’s top-selling phone in that company’s Q3 results. Today Apple released its Q4 fiscal earnings (yeah, it’s one of those companies that likes to run its fiscal year separate from real time [...]

Website of the Day: PlayerBlock

PlayerBlock claims to be the "first ever text based service that allows people to look into the dating habits of others." The idea is you post a review of your date online or via your cell phone so that the next guy or gal has a heads up and won't get played. While I'm not convinced the service is necessary, it's certainly a technological step up from iDating parties, where you pick your date based on the pics on their iPhone.

PlayerBlock's text message platform allows you to post comments about the date (or player), as well as read and get responses from others that have had problems with him in the past. PlayerBlock is available to registered users or via text messaging from your cell phone and includes a monthly fee. Is it worth it? I don't know. I'm no player hater.

Cell Phone Software Threatens Gropers

"Excuse me, did you just grope me?" "Groping is a crime," "Shall we head to the police?" These are just a few of the messages included in the Anti-Groping program by games developer Takahashi, according to ABC News. In Japan this free download ranks as number seven in a top 10 cell phone applications list, as many women are flashing these messages to warn subway gropers to back off. They can also press an anger icon which plays a warning chime with the message.

First off, I had no idea that there were alot of dirties on congested subway trains in Japan. Secondly, since when does a message on your cell phone scare off perverts?! I'd love to try it out here and see how effective it is!

Okay, so maybe I have a thing for binary code housewares and jewelry. I first fell for the binary code doormat, then I fell for the silver and chic Fancy geek ring with a binary message.

Website of the Day: 300 Love Letters

The other day I went on a search for beautiful websites that might lift my spirits and provide that "Rom/Com" like high.

I found 300 Love Letters, a fun site created by a woman with plenty of words, emotion and humor to share. It reminds me of the One Million Messages project, but it's definitely a more personal endeavor — the creator wrote three hundred love letters to strangers, friends, lovers, ex lovers and family members and posted them on the site. The homepage looks like a mosaic of colored tiles, but each color represents a letter and when you click on it, you are taken to a sweet, sometimes twisted and deeply personal letter.

Why did she do it? She says:

At the start I had one very simple goal: by the end of this project I wanted to be able to write a love letter to anyone, a stranger on the street, or someone that I have nothing but scorn for. I wanted to be able to pull out and vocalize the small thread connecting me to them, them to me, the something in them that I found beautiful or real and the something between us that existed beneath everything, acknowledged or unacknowledged, forgotten gestures and moments, strange and rare affinities.

If you take a 20-minute cruise on the site you'll see exactly what she means. To learn how to post your favorite websites to our Website of the Day group,

LED Jewelry: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

By nature geek jewelry is, well, pretty geeky. It's something we've all come to understand and even love — especially when we find geek chic frosting like the Fancy Binary ring or the imaginary, but innovative iGems. But where do these LED Jewelry pieces from Media LED fall on the geek chic meter? Clothing and jewelry items with LEDs always remind me of the light emitting Diode dress, which quite frankly is not geek chic. Would you wear LED jewelry? Geeksugar Chats with Modern Day Doc Jay Parkinson

Have you ever imagined having a doctor that you could call, email, IM, text or have video chats with at any time of day? Well for patients of Dr. Jay Parkinson, this is not only a possibility, but a virtual reality. Last week I had the pleasure of chatting with charismatic Parkinson, who operates his high-tech practice out of Williamsburg, NY. Unlike traditional doctor's visits that include expensive fees and long wait times for treatment, Parkinson offers "e-visits," in which he uses communication technology to manage his patients. Whether it be in the form of emails or video chats, Parkinson's new-age approach to health care is not only convenient for his patients, but very affordable as well.

Mixing the old with the new, Parkinson makes house call visits (picture cute doc at your door), offers unlimited consultation on IM or email and is available Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm and 24/7 for emergencies. With a user-friendly website that he designed himself, new and existing patients are able to access a Google calendar that is integrated directly on the site to view Parkinson's schedule. And if you want to make an appointment, you can instantly log-in and schedule yourself an appointment in one of Parkinson's open time slots — just like that.

Working from his MacBook and an iPhone, Parkinson can access his calendar, phone numbers, email, and electronic medical records on-site using Life Record. By utilizing the latest technologies Parkinson is able to renew prescriptions on the fly and receive updates about his patients' symptoms and conditions via email. When I asked Parkinson about online security, he said that all medical records are encrypted, password protected and stored on a remote server. He said he prefers to use Adium and iChat as his IM chat applications since they are both very secure.

Considering 72 percent of geeksugar readers said they tend to use the internet instead of their doctor to diagnose medical conditions and consumers can now take cell phone pictures of their meals for nutritional consultations, it's no doubt that people are wanting "modern medicine" to catch-up with the conveniences of "modern technology"—something Dr. Parkinson has already established with his approach.

To learn more about Parkinson, you can visit his blog here and check out his artistic talents on his Flickr page — yes he's not only a doctor but a photographer as well, talk about being the real deal!

Geek Out: I Need a Laptop Bag That's Work Appropriate

I get to check out a small army of laptop bags and sleeves, but that doesn't mean I've ever found the right one. Yesterday I reviewed an adorable Lexie Barnes Laptop Case, with a bright and youthful print, but I'm in the market for a more subtle and fashionable case I can use for work.

I like the look of the simple Nylon Laptop bag from J.Crew, but I'd prefer to find something that's leather or a tad more professional looking. I'd also like something that's a darker green, blue, brown or even black so that it works with my work wear.

I need your help! Have you seen any elegant and professional laptop bags that are perfect for Fall? Have You Ever Had Your iPod or Cell Phone Stolen?

As MP3 players and expensive cell phones become more prevalent we hear countless news stories about the devices getting stolen in gyms, schools, buses and even off people's desks. Heck, "Dateline NBC" even did a "To Catch an i-Jacker" special this year featuring iPod thieves. So how bad is it really? It's hard to tell, but the New York Daily News went so far as to blame iPods for a rise in violent crime recently.

I've never had any expensive devices stolen from me (although I do suspect someone took off with my flash drive!), but I've had a few friends tell me their cell phones or iPods were taken out of their purses while partying or out to dinner.

Offices to Go Email Free on Fridays?

Wouldn't it be great if you could take an email holiday and not worry about checking 500 new messages when you return to your inbox? According to USA Today, some professionals are declaring email free Fridays by taking a complete break from email.

At chipmaker Intel, 150 engineers have started an anti-email campaign called "Zero Email Fridays." Basically the company is encouraging employees to meet face-to-face, rather than sending IM's or emails to someone five feet away from you. This TGIEFF (thank god it's email free Friday) has already been implemented in U.S. Cellular and Worldwide Fulfillment Services in Alpharetta, Ga. Some people are even going as far as declaring "email bankruptcy" — where they entirely wipe out their inbox! How would you feel about this? I couldn't imagine not taking a break from my email for an entire day, let alone deleting my new messages!
